2011 Irène Joliot-Curie Prizewinners

On the eve of the hundredth anniversary of Marie Curie's Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the jury of the Irène Joliot-Curie Prize revealed an honours list reflecting the international outreach of French research. The prizewinners are :


"Woman Scientist of the Year" Prize - Anne-Marie Lagrange, astrophysicist, Head of Research CNRS at the Institute de Planetology and Astrophysics of Grenoble, University Joseph Fourier/CNRS. She is regarded worldwide as one of the top astrophysicists in extra solar planetary systems, their formation and evolution.

"Young Woman Scientist" Prize - Laure Saint-Raymond, mathematician, lecturer at the Pierre and Marie Curie University and in the mathematics and applications department of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. She is a specialist in mathematics applied to physics and more particularly to the mechanics of fluids.

“Corporate Women scientist” Prize - Pascale Vicat-Blanc, doctor in computer science, founder and CEO of the startup Lyatiss in Lyon. She is a specialist in high speed networks and grid computing. She created and supervised the team RESO at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon and the National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (INRIA), the team behind innovative solutions for the control and the organization of "cloud" computing (Cloud computing).

L'attribution du Prix Irène Joliot-Curie s'inscrit directement dans la lutte contre la désaffection des jeunes filles envers les filières scientifiques, l'une des missions de la Fondation.
